Yvonne Overton
I have been drawing most of my life, upon retiring from a property in north west NSW, the opportunity to formalise my love of drawing and painting became available. In 2003 I completed the Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts at Tamworth TAFE, then a Fine Arts Degree at the University of Newcastle.
While a student I participated in several group exhibitions. In 2002 was an award winner in the 2D Visual and Fine Art Section of Senses 2002 the TAFE NSW Arts and Design Prize. This painting was selected to be the image on the TAFE NSW Christmas Card.
2007 was my first entry into a selective art prize, the Country Energy Art Prize, where I was delighted to receive a highly commended award, since then I have received many awards including Best of Show at Frost over Barraba, highly commended at Currabubula and a selected finalist in the Norville Art Prize.
My paintings are held in private collections in Japan, the United Kingdom and Australia, including the Inverell Shire and Tamworth Regional Gallery.
Having spent most of my life with a dry hot climate I am drawn to the rivers of our region, they are the life blood of the land. Watercolor is the medium of my choice and lends itself to depicting to the water.
