Sisters take the Reins at Weswal Gallery
Sisters Robin and Jean King have recently become the proud new owners of Weswal Gallery.
One is a maker and designer, the other a collector and organiser — a perfect match for running a gallery.
They have strong family ties to Tamworth and have lived in the North West, Hunter, and New England regions for many years. Robin’s passion for ceramics has taken her all over the world — from studying ceramic design for mass production in England, France, and China, to creating porcelain sculptures on the North Coast and designing hand-painted tiles sold nationwide. Robin has also worked in gallery sales in Byron Bay and in marketing for craft organisations in Sydney, all while maintaining her own art practice. Robin’s work has won awards and is held in several regional gallery collections.
Jean’s love for art began with a purchase from Weswal Gallery back in the 1990s — a moment that sparked a lifelong appreciation for the arts. She brings a strong background in admin and organisation, and she’s looking forward to helping grow the gallery’s artist community and activities.
Together, Robin and Jean are continuing Weswal’s long tradition of community, creativity, and collaboration, with a shared commitment
ABOUT THE GALLERY
Originally opened in 1981 by ceramicist Frances West and Marcia Schofield, Weswal Gallery maintains a reputation as a fine art gallery specialising in showcasing works from emerging to established local, regional and national contemporary Australian artists.
