Julia Griffin is a painter/printmaker based in Walcha in rural New South Wales, Australia. Since graduating from Sydney College of the Arts in 1982 she has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group shows in Sydney regional NSW and overseas.
“These paintings and etchings are from a time when I was fascinated by the architecture and personalities of the facades of typical Australian houses in small country towns. In many cases the windows would be covered by curtains or blinds concealing the private lives of the inhabitants but it seemed to me that the facades invited me to appreciate the architectural features and the small details under an awning, a downpipe, a letterbox, a balcony rail or a TV aerial. The afternoon light would bring more detail into sharp focus and give me the opportunity to highlight the beauty of all those humble things.” Julia Griffin
Julia Griffin is represented by Maunsell Wickes Gallery
