Everything THE LAND REMEMBERED
Artists in residence at Goonoo Goonoo Station
2 - 31 May 2026
Opening 2pm Saturday 2 May
In November 2025, a group of artists from the Willoughby Art Centre and their two teachers, Tim Allen and Ross Laurie, undertook an art residency at Goonoo Goonoo, immersing themselves in the landscapes of the Tamworth region. Working directly on site, they responded to the shifting light, colours, and textures of the environment, producing sketches and plein air studies that captured the immediacy of place.
This exhibition brings together those works alongside paintings and objects developed later in the artists’ studios, where memory, photographs, and field notes informed a more reflective process. Across a diverse range of styles and mediums—including abstract and realist approaches, as well as ceramic works—the exhibition reflects the individuality of each artist’s response while remaining grounded in a shared experience of place.
Together, these works trace the journey from direct observation to recollection, revealing how landscape is not only seen, but remembered and reimagined.
Drawing particular inspiration from Goonoo Goonoo and the vistas from Moonbi Lookout, the exhibition also includes a selection of working drawings and a photo montage documenting the residency in action, offering insight into the artists’ shared experience and creative exchange.
